Mirror, mirror, on the wall.......

I decided not to use the snow picture above the mantel, and so I began looking for an above the mantel mirror. I found the perfect one at "Granny Had It" in Jefferson, Texas. They had a huge Victorian one, but the smaller one seemed better suited for the space. Take a look:

I am thinking about the table below for the dining room:

I have 6 wooden chairs that are original to the house. They are being slipcovered in a cream fabric with an embroidered "D" on the back. I think they would look great with this table. It is from Rachael Ashwell's Shabby Chic Couture store. I have a white table from her line in my dining room.

That's all that's to report for now. It seems that everyone's on vacation, including the hunky electricians and the quirky painters. I'm so ready to wrap this project up and begin renting the rooms.

Yay! It's almost ready for furniture!

I'm so anxious to put furniture in The Rock Cottage. My mom thinks I'm rushing things, but I'm very anxious to decorate the place. I had to place a picture above the mantel today, just to see how it would look. This picture belonged to the original owner of the house. The original owner's daughter, age 81, wanted to keep it, but later she wanted a white vanity that had already been purchased with the house. So, therefore I had some bargaining power & it became mine. Hence, it will have a special place above the mantel.

The dining room will have blue & white toile drapes, a shabby chic table (purchased with the house) and white slipcovered chairs embroidered with a blue D. There is also a gorgeous china cabinet from the original owners. I found the shutters in the kitchen that were used to hide the hot water heater. LOL. I later came up with the idea to paint them & nail to the walls. They haven't been installed yet, but you get the idea. I found some old glass pulls at a local antique store to add for charm.

I'll probably use this area in the den as a place for guests to eat:
And I'm very pleased with the den. I love the floors, trim, and can't wait to add furniture:
And here are some more pictures of the shiny, like new, 77 year old floors:

And last, but not least, the red vent-a-hood!

I can't wait to bring my red Chambers stove back in:
My mom & I conducted a tour today for a mini-reunion of 4 Chi Omega Sorority sisters from Texas A&M Commerce, formerly East Texas State University.

Kitchen & Bathroom tile floors are complete.

I think that my dog Mollie might be able to paint faster that the 2 painters we have hired. LOL. At least we have learned not to pay by the hour. Here are some pics of the completed tile. We are pleased with the job.

And last, but not least, here are my 2 electricians whom I call my bodyguards:

This next week, I'm looking forward to seeing a blue mantel & hearth, newly stained & sealed hardwood floors throughout, and a bright red vent-a-hood in the kitchen. We also have a couple of light fixtures to be hung, one in the laundry room, and another above the kitchen sink. Remember to click the "Follow" button at the top of the blog. Someone will will a free night's stay at The Rock Cottage when it is open. Don't miss out. There are only 12 followers, and family members are not eligible to win. LOL
 Stay tuned, Kathy
